Chasing the Year of the Dragon in Garden Grove

Billed the largest Tet celebration outside of Vietnam, the Tet
Festival in Garden Grove starts Friday (image via Yelp)
Starting Friday, people can head to Garden Grove park to celebrate the annual Tet festival, headed by The Union of Vietnamese Student Associations of Southern California. Continuing through to Sunday, the festival (billed as the largest Tet celebration outside of Vietnam) will be ushering in the Year of the Dragon with music, food, lion dancers, and competitions of all kinds.

For $4 to $5 you can watch the Miss Vietnam of Southern California, chess tournaments or the talent show. Because it's such a popular event, be wary of traffic and parking, but according to the UVSA, there are shuttles available from 12 pm to 10 pm (9 pm on Sunday).

The festival has gotten favorable reviews on Yelp: people gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars, out of a total 12 reviews. Most of the negative reviews had to do with parking, so you may just want to take the shuttle or park a distance away and wear some comfortable shoes to walk to the festival.
