Dinner and a Play in Costa Mesa

It may be chilly weather, but if you're willing to brave the cold, the Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa is offering you theater in a parked car. That's right, you drive there, get out of your car and climb into another one to hear someone else's drama for a change.

"The Car Plays" is being touted as "an environmental event" where a series of short plays take place simultaneously inside fifteen parked cars at the Center's Community Plaza. The cars are set up in three rows of five cars, and for $20, you get to attend one "row" where each car presents a ten minute play. The audience gets to sit side by side or in the front or backseats, with the center promising "a new performance model of voyeuristic intimacy" in a "car-obssessed culture."

If you're looking for somewhere to eat dinner first, I read in the OC Register that Nello Cucina, a restaruant located at South Coast Plaza, is offering a three course meal for $12. That includes salad, pasta, and a dessert for what Nancy Luna describes as generous portions at a "posh location." The deal only continues for the month of January, so be sure to put it on your calendar to go soon!
