Over the weekend, famous blogger Perez Hilton tweeted the link to a YouTube video of fourteen year old Jonah Mowry, confessing on camera that he was gay and afraid to go back to school because of the bullying he had been suffering.
I watched the emotional video, and read the subsequent tweets from many celebrities who retweeted the video and offered words of encouragement to Jonah. Imagine my surprise when I read a couple of days later on the OC Register that Jonah was from Lake Forest!
Since being discovered, the video has been viewed over 6 million times, and since its creation in August of this year, Jonah is now a happy teenager. "I never expected in a million years that it would have such a wonderful impact on so many people. I am truly humbled and truly thankful for all the love, encouragement and support from people all over the world. It's been incredibly overwhelming. I don't know what to say. Thank you so, so much!"
Of the efforts to get the video seen, Perez tweeted: "We have so much power collectively. As demonstrated by @JonahMowryReal's life-saving video going viral! Together we can all do so much good!"
Some of the other famous tweets include those below:
