Blue Whales Cruise Through Orange County
According to the Newport Beach Patch, blue whales have been spotted in large quantites, from San Diego to Santa Barbara, and of course, through Orange County.
The whales' increased appearance has been due to the large amount of krill that's been in the area recently, and the whales have been spotted as far south as Baja California.
The above video was captured in Dana Point, where Captain Dave Anderson (Dolphin and Whale Safari) filmed the video shown above. The whale, estimated at 90-feet, seemingly cruises by the paddle boarder just off Dana Wharf.
If you're looking for some local adventure while the kids are out of school, or if you're just curious to see these rare endangered species up close, now would be a great time to take go on a whale watching trip.
In addition to the Captain Dave Anderson's services mentioned above, there's also Dana Wharf Whale Watching, which is helmed by Captain Larry Hartman. Having seen a white shark sail along with his boat the other week, Hartman says, "There's so much life that it's incredible."
